What do you know about flavors and vape juice

If you visit a vape store or a vaping website, you may see a variety of colorful pods, cartridges, and bottles filled with flavored vape liquid or vape juice. Vape juice is heated in e-cigarettes and vape devices, and it produces an aerosol for users to inhale.

Vape juice comes in a variety of flavors, including candy, bubble gum, and children’s cereal. Johns Hopkins University cardiologist Michael Blaha, MD, MPH, discussed e-cigarette flavors and other e-liquid ingredients, and how they affect health, especially for children and adolescents.

What is vape juice

Vape juice – also known as eliquid or ejuice – is a fluid that is placed in the tank of an e-cigarette or vape that creates vapour.

This is what you inhale and exhale as part of the vaping process. When liquid is heated, depending on its composition, its nature changes. We know, for example, that when water is heated to a high temperature it evaporates, doing so by changing from liquid to steam.Vaping juice acts in a similar way.Depending on the vaping kit you have and your own temperature preference, vape juice is heated to anything between 90°C and 200°C causing it to change from liquid to vapour.

As it does so, you inhale, giving you a hit of flavour when you need it most.

Vaping liquid is a mixture of

Nicotine (but not always!)

Propylene glycol (PG) or vegetable glycerine (VG) – or a mix of both

Food-grade flavouring

What goes into Vape juice

First, we will introduce the basic principles of various possible vape juices. We will also mention nicotine, but you should know that this is not necessary for the process, and you can find a lot of 0-nicotine vape juice. We will mainly focus on VG, PG and taste. If you want to know what these acronyms stand for, you can find it below:

VG

As the name suggests, VG or vegetable glycerin is derived from vegetable oil, so it is considered a natural chemical. It is a viscous liquid and an important part of any vape juice on the market. As for the effects of these specific components on the feel of vape, we will introduce them in detail later.

PG

PG or propylene glycol is another chemical substance that absolutely exists in every vape juice. It is an odorless and colorless by-product of petroleum, which has been used in the vape industry from the very beginning. Its viscosity is also much lower than VG, and it allows the final product to evaporate, because otherwise it will be too thick.

Flavor concentrate

The flavor concentrate that enters the vape juice is not much different from the flavor additives in various foods and beverages, it is essentially just flavoring. Even so, the flavor concentrate content in the vape juice should not exceed 10% of the total output, because even a small amount is harmless, it will change after a certain limit.

nicotine

For anyone who knows cigarettes, nicotine is already a familiar substance. It is part of it that makes them addicted and difficult to quit smoking.

Although many vape users use vape juice containing nicotine, either because they want to quit or just because they want to quit, there are still many vape liquids that do not have any or very small amounts for you to choose from.

PG/VG ratio in vaping juice

To get the best of both worlds, ejuices will often come with a PG/VG mix.

Our classic Lemonade eliquid, for example, is available in two ratios – a VG mix of 50% is perfect if you want a little cloud but keep a strong flavour hit or a 70% VG which gives you more cloud, less flavour.

Combining both substances means you can choose a vape juice that has a balance of flavour intensity, throat hit and vapour density (clouds) too.

If you are unsure whether to opt for PG or VG, choosing a combined eliquid will help you on your journey of discovery.

How to make your e-liquid last longer

Eliquid is best stored in a cool, dark place.

Sunlight drains the soul and flavour from the eliquid and so keeping it in its original cardboard box in a cool, dark cupboard should mean that unopened bottles of eliquid retain their flavour and stability for months to come.Stored correctly, most vape juice is useable for 2 years but only if kept cool and the bottle isn’t tampered with. For opened vape juice, you have weeks before it starts to lose its potency. As yet, in the UK, there is no ‘official’ best before date for vaping juice.Once opened, vape juice doesn’t last long.Once you’ve opened a bottle of eliquid, you need to get on and use it so that the delicate mix and balance of flavour contained in that 10ml bottle don’t evaporate.

How It Changes The Sensation

If you’ve been browsing through websites that sell vape juices, you must have noticed that they almost always include the VG/PG ratio in the description of the product. This is because different ratios of these two components make the properties of the vape juice at hand change dramatically.

The VG part of the e-juice is the part that’s responsible for creating vapor and the thickness of said vapor. So, a ratio that’s in favor of VG will produce a vape juice that makes big, thick clouds of smoke when used.

On the other hand, vape juices in which PG is dominant are not that focused on creating vapor but on carrying flavor. So if you get a juice with more PG than VG, you can expect a more intense flavor in it, as well as more of what vapers like to call throat punch, as it will be a little harsher on your throat.

If that’s a factor for you, it should also be mentioned that vape juices that contain more PG than VG are by nature less dense, and therefore easier to clean out of your vape pen, but also tend to leak if your rig is not top-notch.

People vape for all kinds of reasons. You may have decided to start vaping to kick your smoking habit. Or you may have heard about just how pleasant trying different flavors of vape juice — sometimes called e-liquid or juice — is and how much it adds to making vaping a truly personal experience.

Whatever your reasons, if you want to get the most out of vaping and learn everything there is to know about vape juice, you’re going to love this guide!
